Master of Narratives
We’re looking for a clear-thinking storyteller who can explain what we’re seeing in the market — and why it matters. Someone who can balance between depth and clarity will excel in this role.
LAVA backs founders building new economic and trust infrastructure across Africa.
This is not a marketing role. It’s a truth-seeking, meaning-making, and narrative-weaving role. We want someone who’s immersed in the African Web3 space, knows what matters and what doesn’t, and has a voice that’s as precise as it is honest.
Your audience are current and future founders, nerds who are tackling complex problems for Africa and beyond, and senior influencers in tech, crypto, and the broader global economy.
Your role
Create and publish:
Company profiles (portfolio and beyond) that shows the mechanics of how they work, and why they matter
Research-backed insights that cut through noise and jargon
Social posts with a voice
Macro overviews of the market
Other outputs you believe are important
You are a great fit if:
You communicate with clarity and precision
You’re obsessed with your craft, and your commitment to growth shows beyond words
The way you write reaches beyond consensus
You know how to speak to insiders and bring newcomers in
You’re self-directed, can manage 5-10 projects in parallel, and do what you say you will do
Your attention to detail is radical for most
You’re skeptical of hype and allergic to fluff
You’re immersed in or adjacent to Web3 in Africa
Sure, you leverage AI tools, but you’re not outsourcing thinking to it
Value you get
You will constantly be pushed and challenged to grow
In-depth exposure into startups, founders, and market trends (local and global)
Your work will reach everyone from global leaders to undiscovered talent that’s not active in the usual TG groups or X
Opportunities to be matched with world leading storytellers to offer you guidance
Details:
Full-time preferred (or part-time freelancer if you are exceptionally organized)
Remote work, and based somewhere on the continent
Competitive compensation with long-term upside, or freelance rate
Occasional travel
Interested?
Pick any Web3 startup operating in Africa (doesn’t matter if we invested in them or not) and create a short piece of content answering one question:
“Why does it matter?”
Use any format you like (short article, profile, visual post, audio script, video explainer, thread, etc), as long as it takes no more than 5 minutes to consume. Your piece must:
Be factually honest and go below the surface of what is on websites, blogs, podcasts, etc
Show depth and mechanics — not just mission statements
Make sense to someone in the trenches and someone just arriving
Something we can send to the top crypto founders in the world, and hopefully get the reaction of “I didn’t know people were building that in Africa”
We will pick up to 3 submissions that meet our bar, publish them all and award $500 to each contributor.
Send us your submission to join@lavavc.io with the subject line ‘narratives’ , along with:
2–3 examples of your past work (long or short form articles, threads, interviews, explainers, etc.)
Your social links (Twitter, LinkedIn, Medium, etc.)
Anything else you think we should see
